Tasting Notes
Rory: We’ve been messing around with a charanda-ancho reyes-pineapple drink a few times now. i’m not sure if this iteration is quite right, but i might just be thirsty. it’s very sweet, maybe? and syrupy? so i think i’m just thirsty. The smokiness from ancho reyes is there, but not overwhelming. the primary flavor is the charanda, though, and maybe it does want to be dialed back a touch.
Ryan: This is another drink we invented. I think it works pretty well, although it’s not quite there yet I think. The first notes are some grassiness from the charanda, and here you can tell that it’s a cane spirit. Immediately it’s followed by a good amount of chili from the ancho reyes, though I don’t think it’s too much. Overall, I think it’s nearly, but not quite there.
Recipe
- 2 oz Uruapan charanda
- 1⁄2 oz pineapple juice
- 1⁄2 oz Ancho Reyes chile liqueur
- 1⁄2 oz Liquid Alchemist orgeat
- 1⁄2 oz lime juice
- 10 drops Bittermens ‘Elemakule Tiki bitters
Shake and strain into a collins glass over cubed ice
NOTE: As pictured, we put in xocolatl mole bitters. The tiki bitters are the correct ones though.
