Trying to invent a new drink…

Tasting Notes
Ryan: Today we decided to try to make a drink with our ginger syrup and we thought combining it with Fernet Branca would be a potentially interesting challenge. This is our first attempt. It’s somewhat too sweet, although all the flavor ratios seem correct besides that… We did it as a stirred drink–I wonder if it wants citrus? I’m not sure.
Rory: Hm. Weird! I’m enjoying it. Too sweet, should’ve left it at 1/2oz ginger probably. The minty from the fernet is … tamped down or muddled with the ginger, so it’s sorta just “one of those fucked up spicy plants that isn’t capsaisiny”. It’s weird.
Recipe
- 1 1⁄2 oz Hamilton 86 Demerara rum
- 1⁄2 oz Fernet Branca
- 3⁄4 oz ginger syrup
Stir with ice and then serve in a rocks glass over more ice. Garnish with expressed lemon peel.
